SECURITY CHALLENGE
Point-of-sale (POS) systems in the restaurant industry have gone beyond initial cash management to now managing orders and tracking employee time. According to the Forrester Research report, “Choosing The Right Point-Of-Sale Migration Path*,” leading retailers are blazing the trail to the next generation of POS by integrating their stores and enterprises with single instance POS applications reducing maintenance costs and offering the possibility of new levels of service. Along with integrating back office and front office functions POS solutions today need to be more secure and faster at time-clock and voiding of order entries. Restaurant operators are concerned that employees are punching in co-workers on code and password based time-clock systems, a business pain referred to as “buddy punching.” Additionally, restaurant operators desire a POS solution that will only allow certain users access to particular systems such as a manager or payroll personnel. These users often require access to systems and programs that are prohibited to other employees. In addition, by adding Digital Persona’s fingerprint recognition technology to its POS solutions, Revention has accomplished its goal of improving security for its customers. Restaurants are now assured that the person clocking in, entering orders or accessing restricted programs is the person authorized to do so.
